Aqualyx Treatment

As we all know the human body stores fat. It is just under the skin and it is used as an energy supply in times of restraint.

Everybody distributes body fat by a genetically determined pattern. In almost all cases this inherent distribution cannot be remedied by a special diet or increased physical exercise.

What is AQUALYX?

AQUALYX is a hydrous, microgeleatinous solution. It contains an active substance desoxychol-acid, chemically identical to a bile acid. This has an essential function concerning the digestion of fat.

How does it work?

AQUALYX is the only medical device licensed in Europe for intralipotherapy. It uses a small volume of liquid with few side effects and a minimum amount of trauma. It is usually combined with a local anaesthetic for pain management, and it has very little allergic potential. There is very little chance of therapy failure. It acts by dissolving the cell membrane around the fat cell, first making it swell and so it is unstable, then dissolving it completely. This liberates the fat cell contents, and triglycerides and fatty acids are then removed by the body's own tissues.

What happens after Treatment?

The treated area can feel swollen, usually for around one week. The area can be bruised and feel a little achy. The skin above the treated area can be red and itchy for a few hours, but this subsides. If you can wear compression garments over the treated area this keeps the swelling to a minimum.

How much would I need?

Everyone is different, and it usually takes between three to six cycles of treatment. Different areas have different volumes of fat - for example a double chin would require less than an abdomen. However, treatment intervals are three weeks apart, and a visible result is only evident approximately three to four months after treatment.

What if I need more?

Treatment cycles are 3-6 treatments. Every 4 months you can repeat a cycle on a particular area to improve further.

What should I do after treatment?

Massage the treated area in the shower. This encourages lymphatic drainage and promotes fat melt down. Sometimes little lumps are felt under the skin, these are inflammation around the dead fat tissue. They always go away.

Can I exercise?

Physical exercise can be resumed after the first four to six days, when you feel comfortable. Avoid getting dehydrated, as this slows down the whole process.

Will the fat come back?

From 15 days scientific knowledge suggests no fat cells will ever return, however remaining fat cells can increase in size so it is important to follow a sensible diet and exercise regularly. Unfortunately AQUALYX won't treat cellulite. It won't treat stretch marks and it isn't a weight loss solution.

Who isn't suitable?

AQUALYX is not recommended for patients suffering from acute or chronic skin diseases in the affected area or vicinity. For safety reasons all patients with a medical history including anaphylactic reactions, severe allergies and severe organic or physical illnesses, auto-immune diseases or diabetes, pregnant women or women who are breastfeeding are excluded from treatment.
