What are dermal fillers and how do they work?

The dermal filler product range consists of a polysaccharide (a type of sugar) called Hyaluronic Acid which is stabilized to increase its longevity when injected into the tissues.

Hyaluronic Acid is found naturally in all living organisms, but is also identical in all species and tissue types. Therefore it is not necessary to perform a skin test before treatment. It is derived from non-animal sources and thus there is no risk of disease transmission or allergies in sensitive individuals. It also has a hyaluronic acid molecules bind water and create volume. The injected product is then broken down naturally by the body's own enzymes.

What are dermal fillers used for?

Dermal filler is injected in the form of a clear gel and are used to smooth lines, wrinkles and folds in the skin. Typically these are nasolabial lines or folds (running from the nose to the corner of the mouth), marionette lines (sad lines running down from under the corner of the mouth), oral commisures (lines around the corner of the mouth), cheek enhancement or any other lines in the lower half of the face. Dermal fillers may also be used to treat frown lines with or without Botulinum Toxin treatment. It can be used only to contour the lip border, to achieve fullness in the body of the lip.

Dermal filler is produced as a tissue tailored product range. Different product types exist which differ in their gel particle size. They are designed to be injected at different levels in the skin. The choice of product depends on the treatment area or the depth of the line, wrinkle or fold to be corrected.
